There are many reasons why someone might find themselves searching for a new lawn service. Is your current company starting to slack a little or aren't showing up at all? Did you just move into a new home and need someone dependable to build a healthy lawn for you? Whatever the reason may be, there are a few things to know before hiring someone to work on your property. 1. How credible/reliable is the company - This might be the most difficult thing to establish when it comes to hiring a lawn professional. Without actually using someone first, you cant truly know how reliable the person may be. The best thing to do before reaching out is to do a little research first. Check to see if the service is on social media. Look and see what other people have had to say about the company. Sites like Yelp, Facebook, Google, Instagram etc. are all helpful in finding the right fit for you. One of the biggest complaints that we here about in Cape Coral is that some lawn care services don't show up when they are supposed to or just don't show up at all. We at Landscape The Cape view that as a way that companies take advantage of their clients. If you pay your service $100 per month, you would be paying around $25 per cut.... assuming they show up every week. However, when they don't show up and only cut 3 out of 4 weeks, you end up paying $33 per cut. Reliability is definitely something people should consider before they hire someone to start taking care of their properties. 2. How is their communication - There are many ways we can communicate with each other today. However, this is the second biggest complaint our company hears about when speaking to new customers. "My service just seemed to disappear" Communication to us at Landscape The Cape, is something we take great pride in. Our customers can reach us via email, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, call, text, or through our website. This allows our customers to feel safe about choosing us as their lawn care professional. You should know that if any issues arise or you need any extra services, that you can reach out to your company and they will respond. This point goes hand in hand with the first point as well. If you find a company that is very active on social media and has a strong web presence, you can almost assume their are multiple ways of communicating with them. 3. How qualified is the company -So you have started to narrow down your search for your new lawn care specialist. One factor to consider might be if they are a licensed and insured to work in your area. it isn't extremely difficult to obtain a legitimate license for lawn care in Cape Coral. There are plenty of unlicensed companies out there and some of them probably do a great job. However, in our opinion, this isn't a corner to be cut when operating a local business. Another factor to consider can be if they are insured to do the job. Accidents do happen, and when they do, are you protected? Are they protected? Insured companies can help give their customers one less thing to worry about. After all, we are here to help take some of the pressures away from owning a home, not to add more! 4. What work will they be doing -This tip might seem like a simple one, however, there are a lot of questions that can arise when bringing in a new lawn care service. What kind of work is the company capable of doing? Not all lawn care companies can trim trees or bushes. Some might not do fertilization or weed prevention. If the company does provide "full service", is that included in their overall price for your property? There are certain expectations you will want to set with your service before they step foot on the property. This will protect you and them from an awkward conversation down the road and might help in your decision in choosing a company. Whether you decide on a verbal agreement or you do everything in writing, always let your company know what you are expecting. Do your landscaping beds need to be sprayed with poison? Will your bushes need to be trimmed monthly? Will that be an extra charge or is it included in your overall price? Be extra cautious when talking to companies about things outside of the normal cut, trim and blow. The old saying of, "you get what you pay for" comes into play more often then not. Some companies can promise to take care of everything on the property for the lowest prices in town, only for you to find your bushes overgrown a few months later. Then you have to reach out to them, if they have an easy way of communicating.... and have that awkward conversation. We at Landscape The Cape like to walk our customers through their properties and see exactly what they want and need done first, before we agree to take them as a client. 5. Billing and pricing - Pricing is always most people's number one concern. Generally that is the first question our customers will ask. "How much do you charge?" Obviously how much a service charges is a huge factor when deciding on a lawn care company. It is important to our company to make our customers feel comfortable with what they are paying and the services they receive. Lawn services in Cape Coral are a dime a dozen it seems like and customers do need to be careful when finding the right one. Sometimes the "cheapest" company doesn't end up being so cheap. If a company isn't reliable, not taking care of things they promised, or isn't taking care of your lawn properly, you might end up spending more in the long run once you realize the issue. Its very expensive to get sod if someone is tearing up your lawn all summer long! One more thing to consider with pricing, is how do you pay your company? Do you have to wake up early and meet them every week to give them cash? Do they take checks? Do you pay up front before the job is done or at the end of the month? Landscape The Cape tries to make this part of the process as easy for our customers as possible. We have no problem accepting cash or check, but we also offer a variety of other forms of payment. Everything can be done from your phone or computer so you don't have to worry about having cash or missing a payment. Taking time to find the perfect lawn care service can be an intimidating and frustrating task. Following these few simple steps can help you save time, save money, and find a dependable professional in your area. Your lawn is an investment, so make sure you find someone who cares as much about your property as you do. Feel free to reach out to us if you are in need of any of our services. Thank you!

The summers in Cape Coral, Florida are very extreme in terms of heat and rain. This can have both a positive and a negative impact on your lawn. It is crucial to know what you are doing when you begin to mow in the summer months. A few missed steps and you can find yourself with an overgrown lawn or a scorched lawn. Here are a few tips to avoid some common mowing mistakes: 1. Mow Frequently - How often you mow your lawn in summer might be the most important tip in Cape Coral. If you wait too long in between cuts and the rain doesn't let up, you might find yourself with an overgrown lawn. Not only is tall grass difficult to cut, but it also runs the risk of being burnt after it is cut. In order to avoid this, it is important to get on a routine cutting schedule. The lawn should be cut at least 1 time a week in the summer months. Grass can grow several inches in just a few days so you have to be careful not to let it get out of control. By having a regular routine you allow the blades to expand through the summer and grow healthy with all of our beautiful sun and rain. 2. Mow Smart - So you went on vacation for a week and forgot about the lawn. Dont worry, it's not the end of the world. The one thing you have to be careful of if your grass does start to get too tall, is cutting it too short. If you cut grass that is 7 inches down to 3 inches, you run the risk of scorching your lawn. The rule of thumb is the 1/3 rule. Never cut more than 1/3 of your grass at a time. You can traumatize your lawn if you cut it too short and it can have major consequences. If the grass is a little longer than normal it is important that you slowly work it down to a suitable length. We suggest that you cut it as high as possible for the first cut and then wait a few days and then cut it again to a more appropriate length. 3. Mow Clean - Everyone has driven past a lawn that has giant clumps of old clippings left all over the place. If you mow correctly and take a few extra steps to prevent this build up, you can help create a more healthy lawn. It is important to mow in rows vs mowing in circles. If you continuously mow in the same circle over and over again you may be running over old clippings over and over again and eventually they will clump up and be a nuisance. Instead, pick a direction and mow, turn around and mow next to the line you just cut. Repeat this process until the lawn is complete. This will help create those nice "stripes" you see professional lawn companies create. You do not have to remove the old clippings from a cut lawn. The old clippings turn into fertilizer for the grass and can be beneficial. If you do happen to run into some large clumps of grass you can simply blow them into the yard if you have a leaf blower or just rake them up and scatter them evenly throughout the yard. Creating a nice, healthy lawn in Cape Coral isn't as difficult as some people make it out to be. Follow these easy steps and you will be on your way to that beautiful yard everyone loves.
